Short Horror Movie: Shooting

Writer: Miles StewartMiles Stewart

The shooting for the short horror movie was taken over 3 different shoot days. The main reason for this was because we wanted to shoot at night time, and when we were shooting it was winter, so it didn't get dark until 7pm. The first shoot day was the most productive, as we recorded the dance scene, the entering of the office, re-entering the warehouse and exploring the hallways. We likely recorded about 60% of the movie in the first day. We worked until about 11pm, and then we stopped for the night. The shots that we did on this day were all thourouhly pre-planned and we knew what were doing so the shoot went smoothly.

The second shoot day was completely different. We were rushed for time due to Brad needing to go by 9:30. We attempted to shoot the restof the scenes that we wanted to, and we did, but due to rushing as well as not having a crystal clear idea on what the scenes would inlcude, the shoot was rather naff and lacked real quality. We knew that we would retake most of the shots from day 2, so we edited the video together, and re-evaluated some of the scenes to make more sense and add tension.

The third shoot day included re-shooting day 2, as well as finishing off the rest of the scenes. At this point in time, the deadling was the day after the shoot, so we again, were rushed. This was my fault as I went on holiday for a week, the week before. The shoot went smoothely as we knew we didn't have time to joke around. The shooting was efficient and we were finishe dby 12pm. As long as we had a well written script and a good idea about what we were doing on that particular shoot day, we were pretty efficient. It was when things for hectic, that we started to get agitated and tended to rush shoots. Overall I think that the shooting went ok, but it could have definately been improved in a multitude of different ways, in which I will go over in a separate blog post.
