Basic Colour Correction

Writer: Miles StewartMiles Stewart

Colour correction- The week after the Slovenia podcast, we had the task of editing the final production. We fixed the audio so that one of the presenters wasn’t a lot louder than the Slovenians. We also decided to do some colour correction as the images were very hot and the presenters especially, looked orange. I had never done colour correction before, but after the basics were shown, I understood the basic concepts. Colour correction using the basic tab is simple, and it is the same thing as editing an Instagram photo, by changing brightness, contrast, saturation and so on. Using the lumetri scopes to look at where the colour spectrum wasn’t correct was more complicated, but I gained a general understanding of it. We were also shown how to add luts to your visuals, and these can change the look and feel of the whole thing. With the simple click of a button you can change the mood of the visuals, and it can really improve the aesthetic. Simple colour correction and orange and teal luts made the overall look of the production less warm and more professional. We finished off the edit with a credit scene, and I think that we were all proud of the final edit for our first big studio production.
