Photoshop Poster Advertisement

Updated: Nov 24, 2020

Product advertisement is a very large subject, and has a massive amount of importance in the media industry, as well as in the advertisement industry. Product photography and the making of posters for products are their own areas of fields in the media landscape. Recently we experimented with product poster designs, using NOW drinks. Now is a sunny orange drink, and so we followed on the theme of liquid, and were showed different methods to make overlay images or PNGs look as if they are bending around objects, using basic tools such as overlays and the eraser tool. We wanted to promote the tropical feel to the product, and the freshness that goes into every glass, so we used segments and half oranges to promote that real fruit was being used for the product, so that the target audience would know that the product is fresh and authentic. We used a basic PNG of water, and colourized it to match the colour of the liquid inside of the NOW drink, so an orange colour. We then 'wrapped' it around the bottle to make it look like the water is flowing around the bottle to make the product look refreshing and exotic. We accomplished this through erasing parts of the water so it looked like it was behind the product. Other water PNG's were used for variety and to make it look more realistic. The background was a basic gradient colour, using white to orange. Basic gradient background look very professional, as it looks as if lighting has been used, and shadows are forming making the background look almost 3D. The main focus for me was to make the advert not look very compact. I accomplished this by having the background largely visible, and not surrounding the NOW drink glass with too much clutter, as this product still needs to be the main attraction of the poster.

This session was very helpful, as it showed that very minimal effects can be used to create a professional standard advert for different products. More research and practice will be done for advertising products, as well as product photography. There are many tips and tricks that can be used to assist in product photography, including many 'magic' techniques that can make products look like they are floating, or perhaps look more prestigious than they actually are. This involves using lighting, props, editing and angles. I am very excited to start learning about product photography, no because I want to pursue this path in the future, but there are many tips and tricks I can learn to use in future shoots and projects.
