Recently we got some experience with editing together a German music video. We were sent clips of an artist in a studio in a basic setup voicing the lyrics of his song. The artist filmed himself in different light environments, and set the camera up at different angles and distances. Our job was to edit the clips together in a creative way, but we only had 1 hour and 30 minutes.
To start off with I started by linking all of the audio with the clips. The clips all started at different times, and the volumes were all different levels. This made syncing the clips very difficult, as the sound levels of all the songs were quite different, so there wasn't an easy way to tell if the audio files were at the correct places. I chose about 3 different clips to work with and synced the audio of which probably took the best part of 30 minutes. This taught me that when I get round to recording a music video with lots of different scenes, getting an audio queue in before recording will be very helpful, and make sure to use similar levels of audio.

After the audio was synced, I started to rhythm edit the song. The start was very hectic so I thought I could use a combination of a clip where there is just a white background, combined with the artists doing an action on the same white background. I got clips of the artist doing quick dances and movements and edited them to the song. This again took about 30 minutes to get around 6 seconds of video time. I only had 30 minutes and still had to record about 30 seconds of the song.

For the rest of the song I just edited between the clips at good timings, which worked well because the audio was synced up. I then had about 15 minutes left so I did as much scribble editing as possible before I was finished.

This lesson taught me a lot about the editing methods for music videos, as well as some very important techniques for recording the music video, to make it easier when recording. It also showed me how many different takes I will need to complete when I record for a music video, so rhythm editing can be done to its full potential.
