Drone Usage and Testing

Updated: Mar 5, 2021

I have recently purchased the DJI Mavic Mini 2, of which is a very small drone, for recording high quality footage. The drone weighs less than 250g, only just however, weighing at 249g. This means that you do not need a drone license for this product, as it is under the weight threshold. This is very handy, and is one of the main reasons as to why I was interested in this project in the first place. Having this drone will hopefully give me more access to more shot types, as well as providing me with quality aerial footage, of which again will improve production.

To begin using the drone, I did some research whilst setting it up, as well as learning about what you can or cant do in terms of using a drone, as well as what some of the boundaries are. There are many hidden restrictions, as well as privacy rules, of which I have educated myself on. The full list of drone rules and laws can be found here;

In terms of flying the drone, it is very simple and easy. The basic controller has two joysticks, one for 360 degree control as well as forwards and backwards, and the other for direction, as well as height. There are also controls for the tilt of the camera. Other controls include changing from camera to video, as well as pre-built actions for the drone, such as sequences and paths. There are also lots of other built in functions such as follow-me-mode and mini-world. There is so much to learn about this drone, and it will take months to master, but so far, the shots I have managed to get have been great, and I will show them below.
